Authorities say that a 57-year-old man was stabbed to death on a Newark street Saturday morning.
The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Larry Alston is the fifth slaying victim in five days in the state's largest city. The rash of violence comes after more than two weeks without a slaying.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says that Alston was attacked on Lehigh Avenue, a block from where a 26-year-old man was killed Friday morning.
Spokeswoman Kathy Carter says that Alston got into a confrontation around 1 a.m. Saturday with one or more suspects. He was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m.
