Alleged Gun-Running Ring Busted

Police have arrested five men suspected of participating in a gun-running ring that illegally bought weapons at Florida gun shows and bused them into New York City for street sales.

The five suspects face dozens of weapons-possession charges, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Wednesday. Two suspects are still at large.

More than 70 weapons purchased at gun shows in Orlando and Bunnell, Florida, were seized during the investigation, he said.

The suspects packed guns into a purple suitcase and paid $90 for an overnight bus ticket that traveled up I-95 to New York City's Chinatown, the AG said. Investigators once stopped a bus carrying the guns in New Jersey, he added.

An undercover NYPD officer made 11 face-to-face purchases of the illegal weapons, mostly handguns, from a Brooklyn dealer, Schneiderman said.
