5 Common Core Public Meetings to be Held Friday

Five public meetings designed to fix problems with Common Core standardized testing will be held Friday across New York.

Friday’s meetings will be held in the New York City, Long Island, Capital Region, Finger Lakes/Western New York and Hudson Valley areas.

These regional sessions will allow the general public to present testimony to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Common Core Task Force.

The first public Common Core session was held last week in New Rochelle.

Cuomo wants the panel to make recommendations by the end of the year.

The state adopted the Common Core learning standards with the goal of improving college readiness.

But critics say implementation was flawed and that the state too quickly linked them to student testing and teacher evaluations.
