Guardrail Fell From 81st Floor of Park Avenue Tower: Officials

Officials say construction has resumed at the 432 Park Avenue residential tower in midtown after a guardrail fell from the 81st floor and landed in front of an occupied building.

No one was injured in the mishap Wednesday.

The New York Times says the city's Department of Buildings immediately issued a stop-work order, citing a hoist malfunction. The agency says the hoist installation company inspected the site and the order was lifted Thursday evening.

The 8-foot-long section fell from the 96-story tower under construction between 56th and 57th streets.

Apartments at the tower will go for as much as $95 million. The skyscraper, which is the tallest residential tower in the Western Hemisphere, is scheduled to open later this year.
