A 4-year-old boy attending a barbecue has drowned in a backyard pool in Long Island, police said Sunday.
Justin McConville and his mother were at a gathering hosted by the mother's friends on Saturday on Alcolade Drive East in Shirley when the host spotted the boy at the bottom of their above-ground pool at about 7 p.m., Suffolk County police said.
Family members pulled the boy out of the water and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.
The child was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said.
