4 Shot, 2 Killed in 3 Separate Shootings in Newark: Authorities

Four people were shot and two of them died following three separate shootings in New Jersey, police say.

All of the shootings happened in Newark and only a few hours separated the three crimes, officials said.

The first shooting happened on Avon Avenue near Peshine Avenue, where one man was shot and killed, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

A second shooting took place near the intersection of Edwin Place and Willoughby Street, where two men were shot. One of the victims died and the other victim is in the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

In a third shooting, another man was shot, police said. The man was shot near South Orange Street and South 12th Street. The extent of his injuries were not immediately known, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said. The Newark Police Department is investigating that shooting.

It was not immediately known if any of the shootings are related.
