30 Rock Tree Turned Into Lumber For Housing Complex

Brooklyn families on hand to see their new shelves being made

The Christmas season might be over, but the holiday spirit lived on at Rockefeller Center Saturday.

The area where the 72-foot tree stood throughout December is now empty, but don't be too sad.

The Norway Spruce was turned into lumber that will be used to build homes in Habitat for Humanity's Brooklyn housing development.

Forty-one units at the Atlantic Avenue complex will use the lumber as shelving. Some of the families moving into the new development watched Saturday's festivities.
