3 Jersey Cops Indicted in Alleged DWI Cover-up

Hackensack cops charged with conspiracy to commit official misconduct

Three northern New Jersey police officers have been indicted for allegedly covering up a drunken driving accident.

Hackensack officers Jakub Szostak,  Eric Mark and Lawrence Levin are charged with conspiracy to commit official misconduct.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said Monday that Szostak was involved in an accident while off-duty on June 2 shortly after leaving a bar. Mark drove up and called Levin to the scene using his cell phone.

The indictment charges that Szostak and Levin falsely told accident investigators that Szostak's vehicle was hit while it was parked. It also charges Szostak with making a false insurance claim.

The officers are suspended without pay. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Authorities did not indicate if they had retained lawyers. There are no published telephone listings for the officers.
