23 Cars Robbed in One Night in NJ Town

Thieves ransacked the West Belmar section of Wall Township

Thieves went on a massive spree in Wall Township in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, breaking into 23 cars in the West Belmar section.

Town police said they responded to the break-ins around 4:50 a.m. Wednesday. They said only that "various items" were taken from the cars, all of which were unlocked and within a few blocks of each other.

Further details were scant and detectives asked anyone with information to call (732) 449-4800. Police believe all of the thefts occurred between midnight and the initial report roughly five hours later.

The scope of the burglaries was significant, given that the West Belmar neighborhood has fewer than 1,000 households, according to Census data.
