NJ Publication Ranks 21 of New Jersey's Best Ice Cream Shops by County

Summer and ice cream are arguably the perfect pair. Any great summer night should definitely have a stop at an ice cream shop on the agenda. 

In a new article from NJ.com, the best homemade ice cream shops in each of New Jersey's 21 counties were ranked. 

Check out their list to see if your favorite spot made the cut: 

Atlantic County: Royale Crown Homemade Ice Cream and Grill, Hammonton

This spot opened in 1953 and boasts about 50 different flavors of homemade ice cream.

Bergen County: Ice Cream by Mike, Hackensack

This small space serves up homemade ice cream with high-quality ingredients and creative takes on flavors.

Burlington County: Maple Shade Custard Stand, Maple Shade

This walk-up stand has frozen custard on the menu and a 1950s aesthetic.

Camden County: Sundaes, Berlin

Sundaes makes homemade ice cream and water ice. All of the different flavors are named creatively after famous songs like London Calling or Purple Rain.

Cape May County: Vanilla Bean Creamery, Lower Township

The roadside creamery has great atmosphere and an mix of flavors that would please anyone.

Cumberland County: Serene Custard, Vineland

This custard spot uses the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of mixes and has a miniature golf course out back.

Essex County: Nasto's Ice Cream Co., Newark

Nasto’s opened its doors in 1939 and has been a Newark staple since then.

Gloucester County: Latteria, Swedesboro

Latteria is a quirky ice cream shop with walls and tables painted with murals. They generally have about 40 different flavors at a time.

Hudson County: Torico Homemade Ice Cream, Jersey City

Torico is a family run ice cream shop that has been in business since 1968.

Hunterdon County: oWowCow Creamery, Lambertville

oWowCow was the winner of NJ.com’s best ice cream showdown last year and has some delicious sounding non-traditional flavors like cinnamon bourbon.

Mercer County: The Bent Spoon, Princeton

The Bent Spoon uses locally sourced ingredients to make eclectic flavors.

Middlesex County: Fajji's Homemade Ice Cream, Perth Amboy

The flavors at Fajji’s have Caribbean influences.

Monmouth County: Cookman Creamery, Asbury Park

A father and son duo own Cookman Creamery. They feature vegan flavors as well as regular ice cream on their menu.

Morris County: Das' Creamery, Budd Lake

This creamery has unique flavors and unique names for them as well.

Ocean County: Charlie's Homemade Ice Cream, Seaside Park

Charlie’s in an under the radar ice cream spot that has been in business for the past 35 years.

Passaic County: Guernsey Crest Ice Cream Co., Paterson

This locals-only ice cream spot is notoriously hard to find.

Salem County: Cream Valley Custard, Woodstown

Cream Valley Custard brings lines of people on summer nights and has been open since 1973.

Somerset County: Summer Ville Homemade Ice Cream, Somerville

One of the popular flavors at this place is called Somerville Mud which contains chocolate chip cookies, M&M’s, Oreos, and Reese’s Pieces

Sussex County: Dairy Swirl, Vernon

Dairy Swirl makes around 15 flavors of Italian ice in addition to 40 flavors of ice cream.

Union County: Zita's Homemade Ice Cream, New Providence

Zita’s won top specialty flavor for its S’mores at the NJ Ice Cream Festival in 2010.

Warren County: Mackey's Orchard, White Township

This orchard makes homemade soft serve ice cream with the fruits it has in season.
