Two Port Authority officers were accidentally shot in New Jersey as one of the officers was cleaning his gun, according to an agency spokesman.
The accidental shooting happened just after 2 p.m. at Port Newark in Elizabeth, the agency said.
As the officer was cleaning the weapon, it accidentally discharged and a bullet went through his left hand and then struck a second officer who was standing nearby in the thigh, according to the Port Authority.
Both officers are in stable condition at University Hospital. The Port Authority is investigating the shooting.
