2 Officers Attacked in Huge Hoboken Street Brawl: Police

Two officers were attacked and thrown to the ground while trying to break up a huge street fight outside of a bar, police said Sunday.

The fight broke out early Saturday near the Hoboken Bar n Grill on Washington Street, Hoboken police said.

The two officers quickly became overwhelmed by the crowd and called for backup, police said.

Officer Michael Losurdo was charged by Christian Caputo, 23, of Jersey City, and thrown to the ground, police said.

Losurdo and another officer then arrested Caputo, police said.

But as they were putting Caputo under arrest, two other men charged them and threw them to the ground, police said.

Caputo was arrested and the other assailants ran away but were later found and arrested, police said.

A crowd formed around the officers. Sgt. Michael Costello was trying to clear a path when he was jumped from behind by Hashim Dyer. Dyer, 21, of Hoboken, was also arrested.

Losurdo suffered a leg, ear and head injury, police said. He was treated at Hoboken University Medical Center and cleared for duty.

Costello suffered a back injury and hasn't been cleared to return to work.

Caputo, Dyer and Frank Henderson, 22, of Hoboken, were charged with aggravated assault on police officers among other charges. Robert Rosairo, 21, of Jersey City, was charged with hindering apprehension and failure to disperse.

It wasn't clear whether any of the men had attorneys.
