Two people were killed and another person was injured when the car they were driving in crashed into a tree in New Jersey early Sunday morning.
According to police, the Nissan Maxima the three people were in struck a tree near East 7th Street and Scott Avenue in Plainfield just after 2 a.m., causing the car to split in half.
The driver, a 32-year-old man, and a 25-year-old man in the front seat, both died from their injuries, police said. A 24-year-old man who was a passenger in the back seat suffered an arm injury and other minor injuries.
Police believe the car was speeding and that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
