A glass panel fell at a construction site of a midtown skyscraper on Saturday morning, killing a security guard and injuring a worker, police said.
The workers were moving a large glass panel when it fell, police said.
A 67-year-old security guard was unconscious when offers arrived and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai St. Luke's hospital, the NYPD said.
A 27-year-old construction worker suffered less non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The glass panel was about 10 feet by 20 feet, said FDNY Deputy Chief Tom Currao. It was on the first floor when it fell, he said.
The construction site is Central Park Tower on 57th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues, just two blocks south of Central Park. The building is planned to reach 1,550 feet, which would make it the tallest building by roof height in the country, according to the real estate blog YIMBY.
