2 Arrested in Death of Brooklyn Teen, Stabbed Blocked Apart From Other Teen: NYPD

Police have charged two people in the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old who was killed just a block apart from another teen on the same night last month in Brooklyn, police said.

Donasia Vassell, 20, and Jermaine Matthews, 18, were charged with murder in the June 10 death of John Garrett in Crown Heights, the NYPD said.

Garrett was stabbed in front of 1063 Eastern Parkway after 11 p.m. He was taken to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another teen, Jamal Joseph, was also killed in a stabbing just a block away inside Allegiance Sneaker store on Utica Avenue just before 7 p.m., police said. He was taken to Kings County Hospital with stab wounds to the neck, shoulder and torso and was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the stabbings were not connected.

In addition to the murder charges, Vassell was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal facilitation, and Matthews was charged with criminal possession of a weapon. It was not immediately clear if they had attorneys.
