2 Arrested in Connection With Newark Park Rape

The victim was approached by the two suspects who pulled a gun on her and forced her into nearby Irvington Park, where they raped her at gun point, police said

Two suspects have been arrested for kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old college student in New Jersey Monday evening, authorities said.

The victim, an 18-year old woman, was returning from class at approximately 6:40 p.m., when she got off a bus in Newark and was approached by the two suspects who pulled a gun on her and forced her into nearby Irvington Park, where they raped her at gun point, police said.

On Tuesday, police arrested 26-year-old Derrick Baker and a 17-year old, whose identity has not been released. The two Newark residents were charged with kidnapping, robbery and aggravated sexual assault, police said.   

An investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office’s Office Special Victims Unit at 972-753-1123.
