2 Years Later: Still No Charges in Laura Garza's Death

25-year-old's remains weren't found until nearly a year and a half after she disappeared

Two years after a New York City woman disappeared after leaving a nightclub with a registered sex offender, the prime suspect in her death has yet to be charged.

Friday marks two years since Laura Garza vanished after leaving a Manhattan club with 25-year-old Michael Mele, a sex offender living in Orange County at the time.

Despite intensive searches, the 25-year-old Garza's remains weren't found until a group of all-terrain vehicle riders stumbled upon them in April 2010 outside Scranton, Pa.

Mele has been imprisoned on a parole violation. The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports that Mele is scheduled to be released from prison on Christmas Eve but faces an arrest warrant in New Jersey, where he's accused of lewd behavior in a parking lot.
