Gunman Opens Door to Deli, Shoots at Customers; 2 Hurt: NYPD

Two teenagers were shot inside a deli in the Bronx Monday evening, and one of them was critically injured, authorities say.

Surveillance video from inside the corner deli on the 200 block of East 166th Street in Morrisania shows an evening rush of customers when, as one person opened the door to leave the store, a gunman opened fire and started shooting.

"No argument, shots fired and that was it," said witness Victor Cruz.

Store clerk Yousef Sharhan said the customer who was leaving "was on his way back out, a guy just pushed him and start shooting at him and just came back this way."

The vido shows frightened customers, including a young child, ducking for cover as the gunshots were fired.

Two 18-year-old men were shot and taken to Lincoln Hospital, one in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the torso and another in serious but stable condition, police said. The victims had been able to get up on their own as first responders arrived.

No arrest has been made.

The shooting was in NYPD's 44th Precinct, where there has been a 30 percent spike in the number of shooting victims this year through Nov. 1, and a more than 20 percent increase in shootings in the same time period compared to last year, police data shows.

Neighbor Lee McClendon said he's concerned.

"I've seen that there has been a few shootings outside and around that store," he said. "There's too much shooting that's starting to go on and I'm concerned about that myself."
