2 Killed, 1 Hurt in Newark Shootings

Two men were killed in separate shootings in Newark and a third was hospitalized, authorities said Saturday.

The incidents appeared to be unrelated, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The first shooting occurred at around 10:15 p.m. Friday on Riverside Avenue. Police officers responding to reports of shots fired found 18-year-old city resident Tyquil Whitehead wounded in the street. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, prosecutors said.

The second shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday on Elizabeth Avenue, when two men were shot outside a restaurant. Napolean Williams, 33, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was wounded and taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.
