2 Elderly Women Assaulted in Manhattan Home Invasion Robbery

Two women in their 70s were assaulted during a home invasion robbery in Manhattan Saturday, police said.

The burglar forced his way into an apartment on West 57th Street just after 5 p.m. and attacked the two women before fleeing with about $200 in cash and credit cards.

Both women fought with the thief and were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Parishioners at the Trinity Presbyterian Church next door said they believed the burglar used a ladder on their roof to enter the fifth-floor apartment.

"It's terrible because we don't want anyone to benefit or use our facility to do anything illegal or bad," said Joselyn Marcano, liturgist and clerk of session at the church.

No arrests have been made. The suspect is described as being about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, and was last seen wearing a brown skullcap.
