Two men were killed Saturday when their car flipped over and caught fire on a central New Jersey roadway.
Plainfield police said it's unclear what caused the single-vehicle crash, which occurred around 6 a.m. in the area of Emerson Avenue and East 2nd Street.
A preliminary investigation found that speed may have played a role, they said.
Witnesses told News 4 New York that the vehicle had slammed into a tree. Residents in the area tried to rescue the two men, but couldn't get to them.
The two men were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.
