2 Charged in Slaying of Former Football Player

Police believe Malcolm Bagley, who was fatally shot on May 27 in Orange, was an innocent bystander.

Police in Essex County have charged two men in the Memorial Day weekend murder of a former high school football star.

Malcolm Bagley was fatally shot on May 27 in Orange. Police believe he was an innocent bystander. Another man was injured in the shooting.
 
Bagley was captain of Orange High's football team and graduated in 2011. The 19-year-old had attended Dean College in Massachusetts and played on the football team there.
 
Orange police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office announced murder charges Friday against 20-year-old Mark Lovett and 24-year-old Shawn Watford. Lovett is in custody and Watford is at large. Bail has been set at $1 million.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
