We ate, we drank and we survived the 5th annual “Village Voice” Choice Eats tasting event. Over 83 restaurants served and poured delicious food and drinks for one night only. It is near impossible to sample everything, however, let it be known one should “die trying.” Some standouts were: The Meatball Shop’s Chicken Marsala meatballs; Ample Hill Creamery’s Salted Crack Caramel ice-cream and Sheep Station’s Saucey Sausage Rolls and Mini Meat Pies (with a side of ketchup). Another distinct highlight was guest DJ Andy Rourke of The Smiths. At one point, we found ourselves eating pork belly kimchi fried rice to the Clash’s “The Guns of Brixton”. Now, that was a good pairing.
