Authorities say a 13-year-old boy was shot inside a Brooklyn park Friday evening.
The boy was shot in the groin on a basketball court in Canarsie Park, according to police. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
Police have not identified a suspect. It's not clear what triggered the shooting.
People in the area were startled to hear of the shooting. They say the park is peaceful and the neighborhood is not violent.
"It's terrible to hear this is happening in this kind of community," said Jason Mills.
"On the weekends, the park is very busy, especially in the summertime. But we've never had an incident like this."
