11 Officers Hurt in Scuffle With Inmate at Bronx Criminal Courthouse: Officials

Eleven court officers were hurt Wednesday in a scuffle with an inmate at the Bronx Criminal Courthouse, officials say.

The officers were trying to remove the inmate from his holding cell when authorities say he refused and fought back.

Several officers required medical attention, according to the Department of Correction. The inmate was also sent to the hospital. The extent of the injuries were not immediately known.

The Daily News reports the inmate bit several officers and ripped a pole off a bathroom wall and used it as a weapon.

An investigation is underway.
