A 10-year-old boy was shot to death Saturday inside a New Jersey home, officials said.
The boy was found in a third-floor apartment in Newark with a gunshot wound, acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said. He was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:48 a.m., Murray said.
The child was apparently shot from within the apartment, according to Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly.
No one has been arrested. Law enforcement officials are investigating the shooting, the Essex County prosecutor said.
Family members gathered near the 800 block of South 19th Street early Saturday. They had traveled from Pennsylvania to visit the boy's father, the grandfather said.
