1 Killed, 2 Wounded in Afternoon Shooting in Newark: Prosecutor

A 48-year-old man was killed and two others wounded in a shooting Sunday afternoon in front of an apartment building in New Jersey, investigators said.

Newark police officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Spruce Street. The officers arrived to find three men with gunshot wounds outside an apartment building.

The victims were taken to University Hospital, where one of the men, Theodore Norwood, a Newark resident, was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m., according to Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly.

The two other men, ages 31 and 21, both of Newark, were treated for wounds which were not life-threatening, he said. The identities of both were being withheld "for security reasons," said Fennelly, who didn't elaborate.

No arrests have been made.
