Horse Struck, Killed on Long Island Highway

Police say a horse standing in a roadway was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Long Island.

The truck hit the horses at 2:50 a.m. Thursday half a mile west of Exit 59 on the eastbound side of Sunrise Highway in Center Moriches.

Police say the 60-year-old driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene and was not injured.

Two other horses that were seen in the area of the crash remain missing.

The owner of the horses, from the "Double 'D' Bar Ranch" in Manorville, was contacted. It's not clear how the animals escaped.
