Got Wrinkles? Blame Stress

Don't blame premature facial wrinkles on your genes.  New research says those lines and crevices come from stress, not your family tree.

Researchers at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio studied the wrinkles of 186 identical twins.  "They are genetically programmed to age exactly the same," explained study author Bahaman Guyuron.  But he said if one of the twins had been recently divorced, their face looked two years older than the sibling which was not divorced.

"The presence of stress could be one of the common denominators in those twins who appeared older," said Guyuron.  Other potential factors for wrinkles included rapid weight loss, and the use of antidepressants.

Guyuron's study is the the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' journal of  Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
