Ex-Pres Clinton Announces Anti-Obesity Effort

The initiative extends existing health care benefits

A new anti-obesity initiative from the Clinton Foundation and its partners will let children visit doctors and dietitians where they can focus on healthy eating and lifestyle changes.

The program was announced Thursday by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a partnership between the foundation and the American Heart Association.

The Alliance Healthcare Initiative is a collaboration of four insurance companies, PepsiCo and two medical organizations.

The initiative extends existing health care benefits to include four visits to a dietitian and four additional visits to a primary care physician.

Childhood obesity has increased dramatically in the last two decades, doctors and medical officials said.  According to statistics, in some states, 17 percent of children ages 6 to 17 are obese, while 30 percent are overweight.
