8 Marine Cmdrs. Happen to Be in Leno Audience

What a coincidence...

It was assumed that the nicely dressed men in civilian clothes with official-looking haircuts were some sort of Secret Service detail checking out the KNBC newsroom, since it's in the same facility as the Burbank studio of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

But no! It was a group of eight U.S. Marine commanders on a media relations tour of the newsroom.

By happenstance, they arranged quite awhile ago to be in the Tonight Show audience during Thursday's taping -- when President Barack Obama is Leno's guest -- before the announcement was made.

The Marines said they were pleasantly surprised to find out that the day they would be in the audience was the day the their Commander in Chief would be there, too.
