KickApps Kicks it Up Another Notch With User Controlled Video Ads

KickApps is a company that brings do-it-yourself white label social networks to companies of all sizes. Over the last few months they have continued to introduce new services and features to stay competitive in the while label social network market against other companies, like conVerdge. Today they announce some new video ad features.

KickApps offers users a way to integrate social features into their blog or Web site easily with widgets, plugins and other tools. They made waves with their WordPress plugin a while back, and got together with Userplane last year to add messaging and chat. Earlier this year, they introduced widget monetization and opened up their API to development.

They also added YouTube video capabilities a while back, and this new video ad feature can go hand in hand with that. What it does is enable users to add ads to their embedded and user generated video. The video ad feature works with the existing Video Player Studio KickApps widget, which means the user won’t have to learn a complicated new interface to use it.

Supported right out of the gate are Google AdSense for Video, Scanscout, Adap.tv, and 24/7 Real Media. DoubleClick’s DART is on the list as “coming soon.” I’d be interested to see how this compares to something like Overlay.Tv as far as ease of use and implementation, as well as features.
“As social media and online video become a greater part of every Web publisher’s website, technical and business complexity should be replaced with efficiency and an easy path to revenue generation,” said Alex Blum, CEO of KickApps.

Is KickApps going to revolutionize the online ad space with their new video feature? I don’t think so - there are other companies that offer similar services. What I do think is that KickApps will make it as easy for customers to integrate this new feature as they have their other features. That means they may see a large number of early adopters for this additional service from their existing user base, which makes it a nice added-value loyalty feature.
