Boy, 10, Accused of Felony Robbery in $7 Mugging

New Rochelle police say victim was also 10

New Rochelle police say they arrested a 10-year-old boy after some playful roughhousing got out of hand and turned into a mugging.

The fight happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday at a New Rochelle park.

Police Capt. Joseph Schaller said two boys were play-fighting when things got too rough.

One of the boys made a comment about getting a knife.

According to police, the other boy, also 10, tried to walk away, but the rougher kid followed him and demanded $7.

Schaller says that when the child refused, he was punched in the face three times.

Police said Thursday that the attacker also threatened to `'poke'' the victim with a knife, although no weapon was found.

The police were called after the alleged victim told his mother what happened.

Police charged the boy Thursday with felony robbery. Because of his age, the matter will be handled in Family Court.
