Saberi Leaves Iran

TEHRAN, Iran – A lawyer says American journalist Roxana Saberi, who was jailed on the charge of spying in Iran, left the country early Friday.

Saberi's lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshahi, says the 32-year-old dual Iranian-American citizen has left Iran for Europe, but he did not which country. He said she left around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. local time

On Thursday, the family said they would leave Iran in next few days but would not welcome media coverage on it.

Saberi was originally convicted of spying in a brief, closed-door trial and sentenced to eight years in prison, but the woman, who is a former beauty pageant contestant, and her family kept her story in the news, in part because she went on a hunger strike.

The 32-year-old dual Iranian-American citizen, who spent four months in prison, was freed Monday and reunited with her parents after an appeals court reduced her sentence to a two-year suspended sentence.
