It's official. President-elect Barack Obama announced in a press release today that his longtime friend and supporter Valerie Jarrett will be his White House senior adviser, one day after her 52nd birthday. Her official title will be Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Liaison.
Obama's transition team announced two other key staff positions Saturday. Phil Schiliro will serve as Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs and Ron Klain has been named Chief of Staff to the Vice President.
"These individuals will be essential members of our team as we work to bring Republicans and Democrats together to strengthen our struggling economy and make Washington work for all Americans," said the President-elect. "I have the utmost confidence that their broad and diverse experience will serve my administration and the American people well in the challenging months."
