Gov. Sarah Palin is top gun -- and soon she'll have the weapon to prove it.

The Alaska governor and moose-hunting maven will be honored by the National Rifle Association next week with a personalized assault rifle -- an all-white "Alaskan Hunter" that is the civilian version of the modified M-4 carried by U.S. troops abroad, the New York Daily News reported.

The gun is engraved with Palin's name and a map of Alaska -- with the inscription "In Honor of Governor Sarah Palin" emblazoned on the receiver. The Big Dipper constellation from the state's flag is scrawled on the magazine and a moose and the NRA logo are also etched into the gun.

Gun builder Bob Reynolds, who owns Templar Consulting and is an NRA member, said he made the gun to show support for the former veep candidate who supports Second Amendment rights.

"Gov. Palin stood up an announced she was a supporter of the Second Amendment," Templar told American Rifleman in its May issue. "I was really excited about that .I feel like the NRA has done a lot for my rights. And I feel the governor has, too. I just wanted to do something to give back. And since the governor lives in Alaska, I thought .50 Beowulf was appropriate."

The .50-caliber Beowulf rifle is the same caliber as heavy machine guns and in war zones "can disable both motor vehicles and assailants with body armor," according to ammo manufacturer Alexander Arms' web site.

The gun also comes with a custom sling and Starlight case.

Palin is schedule to receive the honor at a Nat 14 NRA-sponsored banquet.
