Old-School GOP Running “Scared”: Meghan McCain

She may be the well-mannered kid of a distinguished Senator -- but Meghan McCain's got a mouth like a truck driver.

Republican spawn, blogger and compulsive oversharer Meghan McCain took to her stump again Saturday, telling a group of gay and lesbian conservatives that old-school members of the GOP are scared "sh**less" about the future.

GOP grandpas are struggling to deal with progressive social movements like gay marriage and abortion, McCain said, prompting an internal "war" between the past and future of the Republican Party.

"They sense the world around them is changing, and they are unable to take the risk to jump free of what's keeping our party down," McCain, 24, told the Log Cabin Republicans.

"Most of the old-school Republicans are scared s***less of that future," the daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) said, according to CNN.

The Republican Party needs to redefine its image and target a younger audience if it hopes to keep up with the Democrats, said McCain, who signed a book deal last week to write about her idea of how the GOP should progress.

"I love punk rock. I believe in a strong national defense. I have a tattoo. I believe government should always be efficient and accountable. I have lots of gay friends. And yes, I am a Republican," McCain told the cheering audience.

McCain last week stepped out in favor of gay marriage in a blog post called "Memo to the GOP: Go Gay," which she posted on her Web site.

She's also publicly supported the GOP's campaign to master technology like Facebook and Twitter, arguing that to capture the youth market, Republicans have to get in touch with the online world.
