Handcuffed Hubby Files for Divorce

A Fairfield man wants to end marriage with woman he said handcuffed him to herself

A Fairfield man is trying to escape the chains of matrimony again. First, he tried to get out of the handcuffs his wife is accused of shackling him with in a bizarre attempt to reconcile. This time, he’s filing for divorce.

Last month, Robert Drawbaugh called 911, screaming and asking for help. His wife, Helen Sun, had handcuffed him to her while he was sleeping because she wanted to have a full conversation with her husband, police said.

As Drawbaugh spoke with 911, he frantically told the dispatcher, his wife was biting him. Asked by dispatchers why his wife was attacking him, Drawbaugh said he had told her he wanted a divorce. Well, he's taken the next step.

The papers, filed Tuesday in Superior Court in Bridgeport,  read in part that their seven-year marriage has "broken down irrevocably."

Sun was charged last month with assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint charges and ordered to stay away from the home. She is due back in court on those charges on Thursday.
