While going to work is as safe as its been in the past 15 years, you'rer chances of being murdered while there spiked in 2007, jumping more than 13 percent.
On-the-job deaths fell to 5,488 last year, their lowest level since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking them in 1992. That figure represents a 6 percent drop from 2006.
While overall deaths were down, the number of workplace murders and deadly falls rose, to 610 and 835, respectively.
Fisherman and those in related work had the highest mortality rate, with 111.8 fatalities per 100,000. In terms of raw deaths, construction workers led the way with 1,178, which nonetheless is a 5 percent decrease from the previous year.
