What You're Doing Tonight, 6/3

Joe's Pub hosts the new, older Mandy Moore, historians peer at NYC's transportation woes through the centuries, and Femi Kuti makes it worth the wait

MOORING: Mandy Moore wants you to know she's not as teenybopped-out as her first album and not as mature-beyond-her-years (i.e. dull) as her second album. Her latest, Amanda Leigh, is way better than both. The former Mouseketeer plays Joe's Pub with folky grrl opener Tracy Bonham. 9:30PM.

GRIDSKIPPING THROUGH HISTORY: If you think getting around NYC via MTA is bad -- from the service to the up-again, up-again fare hikes -- you should try living here two centuries ago. Muscles to Machines: Transportation in 19th Century New York takes a peek at horse-and-carriage Gotham and how technological advances changed the way New Yorkers live. Mount Vernon Hotel Museum, 6:30PM.

WITNESSING A COMEBACK: Afrobeat bigwig Femi Kuti brings his brass-heavy band, the Positive Force, to the Fillmore, where they'll play some politically-tinged material from his new album (his first in almost a decade) and remind us that Kuti is, indeed, worthy of carrying on his musical gauntlet-throwing dad Fela's legacy. 9PM.
