We have here the video for "Off The Wall," the first single from longtime Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo's first song-based solo album, Between The Times & The Tides, which will be released by Matador on March 20.
He's had plenty of side projects over the years, but those were more in the experimental composition realm. This project allows him to flex his songwriting chops over the course of an entire album without having to share time with Thurston and Kim.
The resulting effort, which features Nels Cline, Alan Licht, John Medeski, bassist Irwin Menken and Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley is surprisingly folky and beautiful at times. That means these songs will go well on Ranaldo's upcoming tour with M. Ward. They drop by Webster Hall on May 11.
