Vera Wang Opts Out of Bryant Park

Vera Wang has decided to show her fall 2009 collection in her Mercer Street store instead of the Bryant Park tents. She said the decision wasn't only about saving money.

"I don't want to seem irrelevant or unaware of what's going on in the rest of the world --  not just the fashion world," she told WWD. "The intimacy of a smaller show feels much more appropriate for these times." She added it wouldn't be a "showroom presentation" but hasn't laid out details of what she has planned, which is fair considering she hasn't even designed the collection.

Ironic how things are shaping up considering the city wanted Fashion Week out of Bryant Park anyway. But we're starting to get a little worried about this next round of shows.

Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo have already opted out of the tents, and with Vera now de-tenting, more designers are likely to follow. Will the tents wind up cold and barren like a newly abandoned luxury store on Madison Avenue? We don't even want to know what the party schedule will look like, but if we have to pack our own mini-bottles, we are prepared to do that.
