Bernadette Pascua, fashion illustrator and the voice behind style blog Decade Diary, is something of a virtuoso when it comes to making wishlists. Here, the chic Brooklyn-based artist shares her top shopping picks for summertime.
Isabel Marant Dara Linen Henley - "Isabel Marant makes the best T-shirts for summer—they're lightweight but sturdy linen which makes them super breathable, and they don't pill. I like the look of longer sleeves balanced with something shorter like shorts or a skirt and this henley is perfect. Also good for tucking into a classic pair of summery jeans or using as a beach coverup."
Dries Van Noten Perfect Shorts - "I recently got these shorts in a black and white floral print— they really are the perfect shorts. I love wearing trousers so it's hard to part with wearing them once summer comes around but the fit of these remind me of my favorite pants. The shape is very chic but comfy."
Zimmermann Bikini - "One of my friends who is an editor was always telling me to check out Zimmermann and their new shop in Soho if I ever needed a bathing suit.nI'm glad I finally took her advice. I love the prints of their bathing suits, especially the florals."
K Jacques Black Leather Sandals - "I don't like to spend a lot on sandals as I've found them to only be good for one summer. K Jacques makes beautiful and nondescript sandals, simple and easy."
Isabel Marant Baubles - "When I go to the beach I don't like to wear fine jewelry—I'm afraid they'll get lost in the water, plus I feel like the occasion calls for something a bit more playful and less serious. I love Isabel Marant's jewelry. It's costume jewelry she makes every season with colorful little beads and tassels. It's fun but still very delicate looking."
Baggu Canvas Backpack - "Fancy bags are another thing I don't like to take to the beach because of all the sand and this canvas backpack is a steal at $30 for carrying all of my beach duds from books to cameras. I really wanted a sturdy summer bag that was hands-free—perfect for riding bikes around the beach."
Amy Kaehne
Amy Kaehne Two-Tone Jumper - "Amy Kaehne is a designer from Australia. Her upcoming Spring 2012 collection has that perfect blend of careless feminine mixed with chic tomboy. She sent me this cute colorblocked jumper from her collection in navy and gray—it's the perfect beach sweater for those cooler summer nights."
Celine Preppy Sunnies - "Sunglasses are always the finishing touch to a summer outfit and you can't go wrong with Celine. The last pair I bought was a classic black cat-eye style that has gone everywhere with me. This new 'preppy' style is tempting me. That's the only problem—wanting them in different colors and styles."
