FNO Brings in the Internet

Fashion's Night Out, an event that has quickly become a beloved tradition, will take place for the third time on September 8. Building on the snowballing support of shops city- and nation-wide—this year more than 100 will participate—the event is now being opened up to e-tailers.

To help hype the arrival of the Internet's "virtual events" to the festivities, Polyvore will host a collage series for users, retailers, and industry big-wigs, kicking off August 15.

This year's FNO-branded gear—because, after all, what would a fashion event be without its very own set of clothes—includes totes, caps, and a night-scene T-shirt, modeled for the occasion by it-model Arizona Muse. The duds carry suggested retail prices between $15-50, with 40 percent of proceeds benefiting the NYC Aids Fund in the Community Trust

OK, now we're getting excited. Perhaps the best part of FNO are the anything-goes antics that go down that night, from Vogue editor Anna Wintour's adventures to outer boroughs, Olsen twins popping up everywhere and typically-serious fashion people turning the city into a veritable carnival of shopping—complete with discounts and balloons.

At the same time, there's a serious mission involved, which Wintour articulated in an official press release:

“We’ve come a long way in three years, and, thankfully, the fashion industry is much healthier than when we started in 2009, but it could always be better,”
