The line to get into Wes Gordon's Fall 2012 presentation snaked all the way around the lobby of Pier 59. Gordon is one of the most buzzed-about young talents showing this New York Fashion Week, having just won Fashion Group International's Rising Star Award.
Gordon told us, "I went in a darker direction this season. It's Rooney Mara meets Great Expectations."
Gordon experimented with proportions with this collection, including this duchess satin maxi coat.
The shoes this season were done in collaboration with Manolo Blahnik -- a mix of pointy toed velvet stilettos and hard edged chainmail sandals.
This print, Gordon told us, was inspired by Tim Burton.
While Gordon has garnered a reputation as a society designer (following in the footsteps of Oscar de la Renta, with whom he has interned), there were more youthful pieces in this collection, like this look.
There were also more red carpet options in the collection than ever before, including this silk tulle layered dress in forest green (a color shaping up to be a big trend for fall).
Another gown from the collection made from chantilly lace and embroidered silk tulle.
Gordon also played with cutaway skirts, revealing a different color of satin on the inside of the gown.
The designer told us that his label is very much in expansion mode. He will be creating both resort and pre-fall collections going forward.
