Victoria Beckham Spring 2011: Structure, Draping and the Victoria Bag

Victoria Beckham's spring 2011 collection of dresses was inspired by both Beckham's love of draping and sculptural shapes -- all which will look lovely alongside her debut handbag collection.

Beckham personally guided press through her latest collection again this season, playing the warm hostess away from the hordes at Lincoln Center from a perch on the Upper East Side. It's a savvy move: Her intimate presentations work in shifts, making for an up-close-and-personal reception during which Beckham explains each and every piece. This season, Beckham pushed herself to create new, parachute-silk experiments in draping (they worked) and structured crinoline gowns to harmonize the now-signature silhouette of body-con shifts and retro, circle-skirt cocktail dresses. Pulling together the line were rose-gold Brian Atwood platform pumps created especially for Beckham, in honor of the Rolex David gave her for her 36th birthday.

Also new for spring, handbags! The Victoria Bag, which Beckham admitted she'd be carrying "everywhere", captures the moment and Beckham's glamorous rovings about town with its structure -- extremely classic (think Birkin), but made modern by being blown to gigantic proportions. Other handbags in the mix include an oversized envelope clutch in two-tone nubuck and lizard, "something for dudes" (a sharp black traveling case) and a hexagonal chain bag. From first glance, the handbags, as well as the mirrored-lens cat eye sunglasses are as Posh, and as strong as the dresses.

The designer's professed favorite finished the show: a starched crinoline gown (shown in white and black) that pinched at the waist, with short sleeves, pleated shoulders and beaded link embroidery--and will serve as her next red-carpet moment, so look out for it soon. Otherwise, the line was defined by trio vignettes in colors like saturated mandarin orange on cotton waffle, silk crepe and matte gazar; "Cadillac Pink" day dresses tailored with curved seams for an athletic feel, blush, iridescent opal and silver and teal lame.
