The Uniform Project

After 356 days of expertly restyling the same little black dress, Uniform Project  founder and Brooklynite Sheena Matheiken is delighting supporters -- and aspiring designers with a good cause -- with a heavier dress rotation during the company's second year.

Beginning this week, Matheiken's site will debut a new design, charitable cause, and fundraising "pilot" ambassador each month through August 2011. This month's pilot -- 17-year-old named Salvor Menuez, who co-designed a convertible jumper/sheath with the U.P. team -- is on a mission to raise funds for Lower 9th Ward alternative school and community center, Our School at Blair Grocery.

We spoke to Matheiken about what's coming down the pipeline, and while she was mum on names, she hinted that the next design will come courtesy of someone "recognizable" and "New York-based." (FYI: All remaining designs and pilots haven't been chosen yet as they're still fielding applications for designs and causes.)

In addition to a rotating, featured donation page on the U.P. site, limited runs of each design will retail online starting mid-month, with a percentage of sales going directly to each pilot's respective cause.
