Trend Watch: Quirky Toppers on the Fall Runways

While one would expect to see hats for fall, the eccentric headgear on some of the runways thus far at Fashion Week has, in some cases, eclipsed the clothing.

The highlights from Prabal Gurung's highly personal collection, shown on Saturday, included moody blue prints and look-at-me gold lame dresses, but the edgy Philip Treacy hats featured in some of the darker looks were particularly eye-catching. Gurung told us they were "a hybrid of a visor and an archbishop's hat."

By Monday, Marc Jacobs had unveiled his own take on the trend -- a Dr. Seuss-meets-Jamiroquai furry hat designed by Stephen Jones that managed to have us full-on ignoring the collection (which was quite good) for the first few looks.

That same day, Donna Karan showed a grown-up, menswear-inspired collection, complete with Stephen Jones-designed miniature fedoras. Clearly, hats will join the ranks of the It-accessories come September.
