Starbucks Taps Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet & Billy Reid for T-Shirts

Starbucks has tapped Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Billy Reid to create limited-edition T-shirts for its 40th anniversary.

According to WWD, the three most recent CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners have each come up with a unique design on the $85 tops: Wang's depicts a coffee stain in the shape of the Starbucks logo, Theallet chose a world map motif and Reid made vintage-feeling tees for both men and women. The U.S.-made shirts are available online at Starbucks' store website, as well as select Nordstrom stores.

CFDA CEO Steven Kolb told WWD that, though they were paid for the task, the designers participated to give back "in keeping with the spirit of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund."

While Starbucks has done collaborations around music -- from creating one-off compilations to selecting particular artists' albums to sell at the register -- this is the first major initiative that the coffee chain has cooked up around fashion. At $85 apiece, they likely outprice some of the other in-store offerings.
