Rumors: Zac Posen May Show Spring 2011 Collection in Paris

It's fair to say that Zac Posen has experienced the ups and downs of life in the hustle and bustle of the New York fashion industry more than the average designer, from being highlighted as a wunderkind back in 2004 to enduring serious financial setbacks in more recent years (as a result, spinning off myriad new ventures including a lower-price Z Spoke line for Saks and an ever lower-price collection for Target).

That said, Posen remains a quintessentially New York personality, so when WWD reported yesterday that Posen had recently told a visitor to his studio that he was planning to show his Spring 2011 collection in Paris -- where, he added, "they understand my clothes" -- word spread quickly. When WWD pressed the designer for details, he quickly hedged, saying it hadn't yet been decided, but stuck to his point that in Europe his clothes are "respected."

According to WWD, Posen had also cited his inability to get the time slot he'd requested for fashion week as an additional reason to move locations, which seems petty at first, but is frankly the kind of thing that can make or break a designer's appearance at fashion week, especially when the fanfare is making its big debut at Lincoln Center this year. While the tiff over the time slot and the comment about Paris perhaps "understanding" him better than we do may seem a bit arrogant at first, New York would be losing a serious name if Posen really did decide to make the move.
